Enter every guest, including children, before comparing rates. A child sharing bedding may still need a paid meal or facility charge; an adult staying alone may see a different rate from the same room occupied by two. A search result for two adults is not a quote for your family.

One night with two meals usually means dinner and breakfast, not lunch. Breakfast-only and room-only plans are different purchases. Check which night each meal belongs to, where it is served, and whether a photograph depicts the standard plan or an upgrade. A buffet and a served course can share the same beautiful dining-room photograph.

A reception desk that accepts late check-in does not mean the kitchen can serve dinner late. Find the deadline for your meal plan and the contact method if delayed. Compare it with arrival at the property, not the nearest large station. Save the answer where you can read it without a connection.

A property gallery may mix suites, standard rooms and shared facilities. “Japanese-style” does not specify the bed, and “Japanese-Western” does not specify how many people use beds rather than futons. Check toilet, shower, seating, smoking conditions and the actual floor area available when bedding is laid out.

“Private bathroom” on a booking site may mean an ordinary shower or tub. “Open-air bath” may refer to a shared facility. Match the description to the exact room category, then confirm whether that tub uses hot-spring water. A property’s large onsen does not tell you what flows into the room bath.

A property having a private bath does not mean it is included or available at your preferred time. Ask about the fee, booking window, session length, washing facilities and route. Confirm the actual policy for tattoos, children, mixed groups or assistance when relevant; “private” alone does not answer those questions.

Contact the actual property before committing to a meal plan. Name every food that must be avoided and ask about stock, sauces, processed ingredients, garnish and shared equipment. A booking-site checkbox or a “request received” message is not confirmation that the kitchen can meet your needs. Ask when changes must be agreed and reconfirm at the meal.

An accessible room is not enough if the entrance, dining room or bath is reached by stairs. Ask for measurements or photographs relevant to your own needs: pickup vehicle, entrance, lift, room door, bed transfer, toilet and dining seat. A private bath can still have a high rim. Arrange required assistance explicitly; do not assume staff can lift a person.

A region name is not a stop name. Save the property’s Japanese address, the correct station or bus stop, pickup meeting point and reservation deadline. Check the walking route with luggage and the next morning’s departure too. If the last bus is missed, contact the property from a staffed place before assuming a taxi will be waiting.

Read when cancellation charges begin, which time zone applies, what happens to meal charges and how modifications are made. Do not assume a weather warning or cancelled train automatically makes a booking refundable.
