Fukuoka Airport Station connects to the Domestic Passenger Terminal, on its south side. If you arrive internationally, follow the airport’s current signs to the free shuttle for the Domestic Terminal, leave near the south side, then enter the subway. Once on the Airport Line, Hakata and Tenjin are different city anchors on the same direct corridor—choose the one that matches your accommodation, not the one that merely sounds central.
International arrivals use the free terminal shuttle
Follow the current “Domestic Terminal” shuttle signs. The airport’s published transfer guide describes a journey of about ten minutes, but road traffic, construction and the walk to the stop can make it longer.
Choose Hakata or Tenjin from the address
Hakata is the main JR and Shinkansen gateway. Tenjin is a large shopping, business and nightlife centre with several separately named stations nearby. Open the hotel address in Japanese before choosing where to leave the Airport Line.

If you need a step-free route, assistance or time to board, confirm the continuous chain: aircraft or arrivals floor, shuttle boarding, shuttle exit, subway entrance, platform, destination exit and the final street crossing. Ask staff before a boundary that is hard to reverse.

Is Fukuoka Airport Station at the International Terminal?
No. The subway station connects to the Domestic Passenger Terminal. International arrivals use the airport’s free shuttle to the domestic side before entering the subway.
Can I travel directly from the airport to Hakata or Tenjin?
The Airport Line forms a direct corridor from Fukuoka Airport Station to both Hakata and Tenjin. International arrivals still need the terminal shuttle before reaching that station. Check today’s destination display and service status before boarding.
Should I get off at Hakata or Tenjin?
Choose Hakata for an onward JR or Shinkansen connection and for addresses around Hakata Station. Choose Tenjin for addresses in the Tenjin downtown area. A hotel using “Fukuoka” in its name is not enough evidence—match the full address.
How much connection time should I allow from an international flight?
Do not build the plan from the shuttle’s approximate ride alone. Immigration, baggage, customs, the walk to the stop, waiting, road traffic and the walk from the domestic drop-off to the station all belong to the transfer. Keep a generous buffer and check the current airport guide.
Where should I check lifts, assistance and current shuttle stops?
