01 · THE SMALL MENTAL MAP
One connected terminal, two floors, several island scales
Domestic and international areas are connected inside the terminal complex. Yui Rail connects at the domestic-side second floor; buses, taxis and rental-car pickups begin from first-floor ground transport.
Connected passenger terminal
A connecting facility opened between domestic and international areas in 2019. They remain different check-in and arrival zones, so keep flight side and floor visible.
Connected does not mean the same counter or gate zone.Second-floor Yui Rail link
Naha Airport Station is reached through the domestic-area second-floor passage. Yui Rail serves Naha and part of Urasoe, not the whole island.
Confirm that the accommodation lies on or usefully near the Yui Rail corridor.First-floor bus and taxi area
Different numbered platforms serve Naha, central, northern, resort and southern directions. The route number, destination, operator and current stop all matter.
Match the exact stop and direction before joining a queue.Rental-car shuttle and road handoff
Rental counters or pickup shuttles lead to a separate contract and vehicle handoff. Licence validity, insurance, child seat, equipment, weather and the first left-side road segment all require confirmation.
A reservation is not the same as legal eligibility or safe readiness.CHOOSE ONE CARD FOR THIS MOMENT

02 · AIRCRAFT TO PUBLIC SIDE
Read arrival as six one-way boundaries.
Resolve baggage, declarations and connections before leaving the responsible area, then reconfirm the terminal and transport on the public side.
- 01
Health quarantine
If you feel unwell, speak to the responsible officer before continuing. Current health requirements belong to the official authority, not to a saved post.
- 02
Immigration
Keep your passport and official arrival preparation ready. Visit Japan Web can support eligible procedures, but the route assigned today remains the authority.
- 03
Baggage claim
Match the flight number to the carousel and the tag to the bag. Report missing or damaged checked baggage before leaving the controlled claim area.
- 04
Plant and animal quarantine
Fruit, seeds, vegetables, meat products and other controlled items may need inspection and documents. A souvenir or snack is not automatically exempt.
- 05
Customs
Follow the current declaration route for your case. If an item, value or unaccompanied bag is uncertain, ask before crossing the final customs boundary.
- 06
Public arrival area
Reconfirm the domestic, connecting or international area, then choose Yui Rail only for its urban corridor, a bus or taxi for the exact stop, or the rental-car handoff for a prepared road journey.

03 · PRODUCTS, NOT JUST VEHICLES
Turn a vehicle name into a product that reaches the final address.
Compare ticket, seat, stops, baggage, transfer, current operation and final walk—not speed alone.
Yui Rail monorail
Naha and corridor destinationsYui Rail connects the airport with central Naha, Shuri and part of Urasoe. Choose it by the exact station and final walk; it does not reach Chatan, Onna, Nago or Motobu.
Local, express and resort buses
A direct or useful island stopNumbered platforms and many operators serve distinct central, northern, resort and southern areas. Confirm the exact hotel stop, reservation, luggage, return direction and current operation.
Official taxi by distance zone
Low-transfer arrival with a clear addressThe airport separates medium/short and long-distance taxi stands by broad destination area. Show the complete Japanese address and treat quoted time and fare as estimates affected by traffic and time of day.
Rental car
Prepared travel beyond the transit corridorA car can solve dispersed island travel, but the decision includes valid documents, insurance, driving side, child restraint, typhoon or heavy-rain risk, fatigue, parking and alcohol-free driving.
| Destination | Compare first | Decision note |
|---|---|---|
| Kokusai Street / Asahibashi / Makishi | Yui Rail monorail | Kokusai Street is long; different stations suit different ends. |
| Shuri / Urasoe corridor | Yui Rail monorail | The station is only the start of the final topography. |
| Chatan / Okinawa City | Local, express and resort buses | Use the exact hotel or district stop, not the broad “central” label. |
| Onna resort area | Local, express and resort buses | An area name can contain many non-walkable hotel stops. |
| Nago / Motobu / northern island | Local, express and resort buses | The airport is the start of a long road journey, not arrival in northern Okinawa. |
This is not a live route including arrival, waits, walking, crowds or disruption.
04 · RECOVERY BELONGS INSIDE THE ROUTE
Keep the owner of each problem and a staffed recovery point.
Recover late night, weather, children, assistance, connections and baggage separately.
Typhoon or heavy rain changes the island
Check the flight, terminal operation, Yui Rail, each bus operator, roads and destination separately. Do not move into an exposed queue without a confirmed operating segment.
The useful bus or monorail connection has ended
Remain at a staffed public point and compare official taxi, confirmed nearby stay or the next service. Do not accept an unverified ride.
Heat and humidity arrive before the holiday
Change layers, drink and protect medication or devices before the outdoor transfer. A short walk with luggage can still be significant in heat.
Assistance changes at the transport boundary
Connect airline and airport assistance to the Barrier Free Tour Center, then to monorail, bus, taxi or vehicle support and the destination-side terrain.
Domestic and international connection
Follow the current airline sequence for baggage, immigration, customs, connected public areas, check-in and security. Connected architecture does not answer baggage ownership.
Road journey becomes unsafe or exhausting
Stop at a staffed safe place, separate weather from fatigue and compare a legal alternative, different first-night stop or later restart.
FACILITIES · BUILDING, FLOOR, SIDE, TIME
Turn facility existence into a usable plan.
Add provider, eligibility, capacity, deadline and onward journey to the current map.
Information and tourist counters
Use a staffed desk to verify the exact bus platform, accommodation stop, monorail path or rental-car pickup before entering heat or rain.
Barrier Free Tour Center
The domestic first-floor centre provides accessible tourism and transport guidance and equipment rental. Current hours and the handoff to the chosen operator still need confirmation.
Baggage delivery, storage and lockers
Delivery can reduce a long bus or monorail-plus-walk burden. Confirm island destination, acceptance deadline, delivery day, provider and accommodation reception.
Wi-Fi, charging and an offline island plan
Save the Japanese address, bus stop, return route and operator pages before leaving. Mobile coverage or battery cannot be the only copy of a long island journey.
Nursing, play and climate reset
Feed, change and adjust clothing before the first-floor road handoff. Keep water, sun and rain protection accessible rather than deep inside checked or delivered baggage.
05 · THE GROUND BENEATH THE GATEWAY
Read the place and time beneath the convenience.
Read the airport through its relationship with land, sea, industry, war, movement and everyday life.
Navy Oroku airfield
The site began as a naval airfield in 1933. Any airport story must acknowledge the military history beneath today’s passenger terminal.
Post-war aviation under U.S. administration
Passenger terminal history continued during U.S. administration after the Battle of Okinawa. The gateway developed inside Okinawa’s distinct post-war experience.
Reversion and national airport operation
On 15 May 1972 Okinawa returned to Japanese administration and the Ministry of Transport began operating Naha Airport. That date carries meaning beyond an airport management change.
The present domestic terminal takes shape
The new domestic passenger terminal opened in 1999 and was expanded repeatedly as Okinawa travel grew.
International growth and a connected terminal
A new international building opened in 2014, followed by the domestic-international connecting facility in 2019. Today’s indoor link is recent infrastructure.
A second runway on the sea side
The second runway opened in 2020, expanding capacity on a constrained coastal site. The airport remains part of a living city and island environment.
THE RETURN JOURNEY
On departure day, work back to the correct check-in—not the airport name.
Freeze flight, domestic or international area and airline deadlines. Add road-weather buffer, fuel or rental return, shuttle, baggage and terminal walk; only then plan the final beach, meal or shopping stop.
- Confirm terminal and side from today’s flight
- Work backward from airline deadlines
- Add regional disruption and last service
- Keep food and shopping inside the protected buffer
