Can you refund Suica at Kansai Airport?

Choose before leaving Tokyo, or spend the balance in Kansai

1. Still in Tokyo? Arrange the refund before leaving JR East’s area, then use other tickets for the rest of the trip. Named My Suica cards also require official identification.
2. Already in Kansai? After your last IC-card journey, use the remaining balance at shops displaying a compatible IC-payment mark. Check acceptance before ordering; not every airport shop accepts it.
3. Check who issued the card. A Tokyo Monorail Suica, for example, must go back to its issuing company. The Suica logo alone does not identify the refund counter.
4. Returning to Japan? You can keep an ordinary Suica. JR East says it becomes invalid after ten years without use; this is not the Welcome Suica validity rule.

Separate the balance from the deposit

• For an ordinary physical JR East Suica, the refund is the remaining balance minus a fee of up to ¥220, plus the ¥500 deposit. If the balance is below ¥220, that balance is the fee; the deposit is still returned.
• The deposit is separate from spendable credit. Shopping cannot use it, and spending the balance does not return it.
